Information About Your Braces
Foods to avoid while wearing braces
1. Chewing gums
2. Potato chips, pretzels and other hard foods
3. Apples or other hard fruit, Hard vegetables such as carrots or celery unless cut into small pieces
4. Any type of nuts
5. Popcorn
6. Steak--unless tender and cut into small pieces
7. Caramel
8. Hard candy and taffy
9. Pizza crust
10. NO chewing ice
11. Any other hard, crunch, or sticky food
Clean teeth and braces at all times
1. Brush teeth and braces with a soft toothbrush
2. Teeth are to be brushed after eathing. This includes after light snacks
3. Check teeth after brushing to make sure they are clean. Leave no debris at the gumline or hard to reach areas. These spots are vulnerable and if not clean will cause decay and white or brown decalcification lines.
REMEMBER - BRACES DO NOT CAUSE THE WHITE LINES ON TEETH - IT IS THE FOOD PARTICLES AND PLAQUE AROUND THE BRACES THAT CAUSES THIS DECALCIFICATION --- KEEP THE TEETH METICULOUSLY CLEAN !!!
Take care of your braces
1. Do not bend, break, or lose parts of your braces.
2. if you knock one of your braces off please call the office immediately.
Information Concerning Your Orthodontic Retainer
1. The retainer MUST be worn all the time. The only time the retainer is to be removed is to clean it and when you eat.
You may brush your appliance gently with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste. You will be instructed as to when you can limit your retainer wear.
2. If you are having any trouble with the retainer call the our office before removing the retainer. Do not remove the retainer unless directed to do so. You can call our office anytime.
3. If the retainer breaks or if you have any troubles or questions please do not hesitate to call the office.
Please remember the retention of your smile is your responsibility. You must wear your retainer as directed.
